How Technology Is Reducing The Cost Of Concrete Water Chillers.

July 9, 2013

Concrete water chillers are becoming more efficient , smaller and portable. Common industrial Pearson Portable Chiller refrigeration units are designed to operate over a long cycle period.  However concrete batch plants require chilled water to be available in shorter cycles. Some chiller manufactures are now adding a PLC (programmable logic controller) to increase the efficiency and recovery rating of chillers by up to 20%. The increase in efficiency has also downsized the required size and weight of the chillers. Today’s chiller can be easily mounted on a small trailer ($5,000.00) and shared between batch plant locations. Electrical quick disconnects ($1,300.00) mounted on the trailer can reduce the cost of on-site hook-up. Portable plumbing fittings can incorporate quick disconnects with flexible hoses. Some ready-mix companies have purchased portable tank and chiller trailer combinations for temporary job sites. Depending on the tank size, the optional trailer upgrade can cost from $28,000.00 to $40,000.00. Portable trailer tank sizes range from 8,000 to 15,000 gallons. These tanks have a special insulation reducing temperature loss. The trailers are custom designed with additional supports to grade to support the added weight from the water in the tanks. Hot water heaters ($16,000.00) can be added to the insulated water tanks for winter use.
